Starting the Day with Protein

Here’s a quick glimpse into the daily grind of eating a nutrient dense diet. Pretty simple, 3 scrambled eggs and a filet of mahi-mahi, seasoned with spicy lime, cayenne & garlic. I keep reading about the proper number of protein grams to shoot for daily. As with most things, there seems to be less than one correct answer. I have seen the range from 1 gram per pound of body weight all the way down to vegan (kidding) about .6 grams per pound of body weight. I think some of the confusion may be centered around a miss-conversion of an original formula of 1 gram of protein per kg of body weight. I’m old enough to remember metric rulers in classes in the 70’s, a concept that clearly did not stick well in the USA.

Of all the things I track, the protein grams is probably near the top of the list. Maintaining muscle mass/health as I age is critical, so I have a pretty good understanding of where my protein intake is at. This breakfast is providing 42 grams, 21g from the fish, and 21g from the eggs.

Just to keep things simple, I shoot for 100 grams of protein per day, but don’t sweat it if I only reach 80ish grams. Today, I’ll add a protein drink that has 30 grams and finish up with 40-50 grams via chicken breast. Close enough.

Now, back to watching a YouTube video about organizing the workbench while enjoying my coffee. Sounds like a retired person thing, eh?
